The PMC will guide Mhada in choosing contractors, determining their eligibility and tender norms,” said a Mhada official.“Now, after the chief engineer issues the work order, we can start with other procedures.The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s (Mhada) plan to undertake the redevelopment of cluster redevelopment project of 128-acre Motilal Nagar located in Goregaon has received another push as Mhada will appoint an architecture firm, PK Das, as the project management consultant for wholesale sheet metal the project.Earlier in October 2015, Mhada had floated tenders for appointing tenders for the same. In December 2015, again tenders were floated and two firms had applied for the appointment. However, it did not get any response from anyone to act as a consultant for the redevelopment. “However, we will need to take permission from the Bombay high court as the matter is in the court and only after that we will give a work order to the appointed consultant,” added the Mhada official. Motilal Nagar was constructed in 1960 and Mhada has planned to rehabilitate the existing 3,628 tenants in 485 square feet houses and use the rest of the plot to create a housing stock.
The matter is being heard in the high court after a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the court to take action against 6,000 illegal structures in the colony before it went for redevelopment. “We expect to create at least 15,000-20,000 affordable housing units,” the Mhada official added. The redevelopment will be taken up under the amended Development Control Regulations (DCR) 33/5, which will allow Mhada to undertake the redevelopment.
